Here’s your surprise secret sauce to get your new huge client or rock your million dollar pitch.
You’ve read my blogs on how to show executive presence, appear confident and build rapport. All of these characteristics and strategies matter.

Meet Peter, the Best Concierge Ever at my high rise apartment building.
But it all begins with the elevators. Let me explain.
I live in a lovely high rise building on the top floor in the heart of Dallas. Not that long ago both of our elevators in the lobby were not operating for 3+ weeks causing havoc for all. I don’t even want to tell you all the many crazy ways you had to work it to receive guests, door dash food, and your mail.
Everyone was upset. In fact some of my fellow residents shared their aggravation with our high rise professionals manning the front lobby desk. Read that as YELLING at Peter, our fabulous concierge. Maybe that made them feel better, but Peter cannot fix elevators nor does he have the ability to manufacture elevator parts. As frustrating as the circumstances were, these residents showed an alarming lack of character.
Last week…
My business gained the attraction of a wonderful prospect. She resonated with my website, value proposition, AND my mailing address! It turns out that she lives in my high rise and we have shared the elevator (when it’s working 🙄). Neither one of us have ever yelled at Peter… and I look forward to working with her.
What do these non-working elevators have to do with you?
Everything. Your hidden secret sauce to win business is acting with common sense, good natured humor, and courteous manners … 24/7.
THINK COLDPLAY.
Character is what you’re doing when no one is looking. Or you think no one is looking.
Peter may never be your client, but he may know someone who can be. Treat others with the kindness you would want them to treat you with.
Val – What a good point. It’s not only the benefits of sharing your good character… it’s the ripple effect of how your positive character plays out with everyone you are connected with. Thanks for your feedback!
I love soaking in your good advice. It always arrives at the right time, and timing is everything.
Hi Kevin – Yep… timing is everything. And that’s why people yelled at Peter – they did not have time to deal with elevator issues, and we tend to go nuts when we are stressed. So, this blog is a reminder to all of us (including me) to try to stay good natured in the midst of craziness. I’m glad this blog was well-timed for you.
