Your Voice, Your Business and Your Audience

by | Apr 23, 2014

As the current President of the National Speakers Association, North Texas Chapter, I write a monthly newsletter column. This edition relates to your concerns about really meeting the needs of your listeners. Enjoy!

Did you know that Chris Price hates runny egg yolks? He can tolerate a scrambled egg; but don’t ever give him his eggs sunny side up!

Did you know that Gary Rifkin can’t stand mushrooms? Texture is too slimy.

Did you know that I turn green if you serve me anything with green peppers? One speck of green peppers ruins the meal for me.

These morsels of trivia (which will definitely move your voice and your business to the next level) were discussed when Chris, Gary and I took Rick Metzger, CSP, our fabulous April-meeting speaker, to dinner.

As we talked about our foodie likes and dislikes I was struck with the variety and strength of our feelings on these issues. It made me think about the variety and strength of feelings of our clients, prospects, and audiences. What are their likes and dislikes? We KNOW to customize our messages to meet their needs; but, do we REALLY know the extent of their opinions on what we’re speaking about?

Good luck in going the distance to find out what really makes your audiences tick and what makes them vulnerable. It truly matters. You can have the best content but if you alienate your listeners with a bunch of green peppers you will not connect. No connection = no trust = no business.

We hope we have provided you with a variety of tastes this year in our programming. That’s been our aim.

It’s your voice and your business,

Karen
