A recent sun rise @ our Star RanchThe first comment:
“Just do it.”
No, I was not watching a Nike commercial. In fact, it wasn’t a comment “to” me, rather it was a comment I made to myself, and managed to listen to.
Context: While on the phone scheduling my annual mammogram the office assistant asked me, “How about Jan 3?”
I mulled this over and said to self, “I don’t want to make any appointments like this in January. I’m really busy in January with clients who don’t want to work in December. I’ll schedule this mammogram a couple of months later. For once I’ll push out an annual visit to around 15 months. Why not?”
I’m about to respond when my thoughts suddenly shifted to, “Just do it.”
The scheduler interrupted my internal dialogue, “Are you still there?”
I said, “Yes, I’ll take that time slot on Jan 3.”
The second comment:
About nine months later, after a successful lumpectomy, 4 months of chemotherapy, 33 radiation zaps and 106 office visits the radiologist said, “You’re a poster child for mammography.”
“Why?”, I asked. He replied, “Because your annual mammogram caught this aggressive Triple Negative Breast Cancer EARLY and you’re going to be OK!”
Relevance to you
First, listening is a critical communication skill. Not only listening to others but listening to yourself.
Second, it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I like to use this blog, once a year, to share some aspect of my story as a reminder for you to stay current on your periodic medical appointments and screenings.
Third, who wants to be a Poster Child for anything?! I do. I want to be a Poster Child for YOU.
PS: These two comments happened 14 years ago. Glad to still be writing and living and enjoying sun rises.

I could not agree with you more! Thank you.
The power, potency, and purpose of saying YES in pivotal moments.
Brett – thank you for your comment. Yes, it was fortuitous to say “yes” at this pivotal moment. Very grateful.
