Look For The Sharks – One Way to Avoid an Attack of Presentation Anxiety

by | Jan 2, 2018

You tell me that you get nervous giving a speech whether you are the CEO talking to your Board, or you are speaking to your colleagues at your monthly association meeting, or you’re the keynoter at a convention.

Recently one of my clients, the CEO who talks regularly to his organization, gave me the idea for this blog.

He said, “When I give this speech I know there will be some dissention. After all, I’m doing a reorg and replacing the head of Sales.”

I responded, “Who are the sharks? How can you overcome their concerns?”

In my Speak For Yourself® Workbook my clients receive a diploma: The University of Nerves Entitles you to a Degree of Nervousness. On this diploma are 15 strategies for nervousness control.

“Look For the Sharks” falls within the strategy called: PREPARE.

Preparation is a physical event and also a mental event. It includes the actual speech preparation AND figuring out ahead of time who your sharks are and how you will handle these pesky sharks. By doing this advance work the sharks won’t eat you. You will have the bait necessary to do your good presentation.

Your next blog will be about addressing the elephants. But that’s a different story.
